McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella commented on the results of the Dutch Grand Prix, which saw Lando Norris win and Oscar Piastri take 4th place.
Andrea Stella: “Of course I am happy. I can say that the result exceeded our expectations! We knew that our car could reach good speeds, but today we were pleasantly surprised to see how fast it is.
It’s great that Lando could take full advantage of this and win by such a margin, although it’s a bit of a shame that Oscar got stuck in traffic. He also deserved a podium today and I think Piastri could have attacked Max Verstappen towards the end of the race. It didn’t work out, but the pace of the MCL38 is encouraging for future races.
I would like to thank the entire team: all our people are doing a great job, including the technical innovations that helped us achieve success this weekend.
“I’m not ready to say that McLaren is the fastest car in the championship, because a lot depends on the conditions. For example, the Hungaroring suited our car very well, but now that we have modernised it, we have to see if it will be as good on other circuits. But of course it is our job to make sure that it really is the best car in the championship.”
