Pirelli is happy with how the teams conducted the race at Zandvoort, given the lack of information about the performance of the tyres…
Mario Isola: “A tight race in which we saw one driver and one team – Lando Norris and McLaren – show clear dominance. Behind him, a tense battle unfolded between two groups of teams: the leading group of McLaren, Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes drivers and the rest of the competitors.
Our predictions were confirmed: the one-pit strategy proved to be the fastest option. Based on the small amount of data collected from practice and simulator work, we had expected more cars to use Soft to gain an advantage over Medium, but most teams decided to run the first lap more conservatively due to a lack of information.
The Soft tyres could also cope with a riskier strategy, as shown by the example of Hamilton, who gained the most places with the C3 compound both at the start and in the final stint.”
