After the Dutch Grand Prix, which was won by Lando Norris and Max Verstappen finished second, Red Bull Racing’s lead over McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship was reduced to 30 points.
Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko admitted on Servus TV that he was concerned about this development: “We are clearly losing, and this is worrying. But I think what the delay is [от McLaren] partly due to the characteristics of the route. In addition, the race took place at relatively low temperatures.
Interestingly, Oscar Piastri was driving at the same pace as Lando after the pit stop, but when he overtook Charles Leclerc, he couldn’t do anything with him and got stuck. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen to Lando when he overtook Max.”
On another TV channel, German Sky, Marco called the biggest problem in the race the tire wear of Verstappen’s car: “We couldn’t keep up with the pace of the McLaren. At the beginning of the race we were driving at the same pace, but then the tires started to wear. You saw how easily Lando overtook Max.
On the last lap Lando set the fastest time without DRS, which shows that McLaren was clearly superior to us on this circuit.
It is also important to remember that Sergio Perez was faster than Max in the last stint, and their cars were set up differently. We may have made a mistake by setting Max’s car to more downforce. But it didn’t help in the corners and the maximum speed on the straights wasn’t high enough. We have a lot of work ahead of us and a race like this gives us food for thought.
Tyre wear became a big problem. Max’s car started to slide and he could no longer attack.”
