Charles Leclerc was happy with sixth place at the start after qualifying in Zandvoort and said he would try to maintain his position in the race. In the end, however, he reached the podium and finished third.
His teammate Carlos Sainz gained five places from the start, finished fifth and scored ten points.
Charles Leclerc (3rd): “I am very surprised! I don’t often enjoy third place, but today we can be very happy with the race and the result achieved in a difficult weekend for the team.
The problems started on Friday and continued until the race. The pace was higher in the race and we were able to implement the perfect strategy. I took out two opponents and then kept them behind. The team really drove a strong race.
I didn’t think I could be on the podium for the team after such a difficult weekend.”
Carlos Sainz (5th): “Saturday was very difficult for me because I didn’t do any fast laps on soft tyres before qualifying, and on this kind of circuit you have to pay a price for that. The car was slow, we almost lost a second on pole position, but today the weather improved, the sun was shining and the car went faster straight away.
We had a strong race and I won back positions. We didn’t expect such a result. I thought I would be seventh or eighth at best, but suddenly I could fight with Sergio Perez and George Russell and finish ahead of them.
The speed was much higher than expected – I finished just five seconds behind Oscar Piastri, which shows that we had a strong race.”
