At the start of the Dutch Grand Prix, Max Verstappen took the lead, but during the race he lost the first position to Lando Norris. After the finish, Max said that he could not count on victory due to the speed of the car.
His Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez started fifth at Zandvoort, but passed Charles Leclerc on the first lap and finished sixth. After the finish, the Mexican said he was afraid of the capabilities of the McLaren car.
Max Verstappen (2nd): “You always strive for the best result. I had a good start and tried to do my best, but as the race went on it became clear that we were not fast enough. So I tried to run my race and finish second.
“I get good starts and I was sure that everything would be fine today. Luckily it turned out to be the case. After that I tried to ride my own pace, which is why I came second today.”
Sergio Perez (6th): “We made progress this weekend, but I am very disappointed with the speed of the car in the race. We did not expect this speed and before the start we thought we would be much closer to McLaren. The circuit in Monza is very different to Zandvoort, but today it was scary to see what McLaren is capable of. The speed of the Ferrari was a big surprise, so we have a lot to think about.
I think the weekend was positive for the team. Max and I had different configurations in our cars, which allowed the team to gather a huge amount of information. I hope that in the near future we can put all the components together and make the car faster.
The most important thing is that we have been able to identify the causes of the problems and now know how to eliminate them, and that is positive. We need to improve our car and increase the race pace.”
