The traditional post-season test for young drivers in Abu Dhabi could include a sprint race this year.
The fate of the tests will be decided this week. For now, the intention is to keep them in the same format, with each team producing two cars, one for testing young drivers, the second for working with new Pirelli tyres.
Another option was discussed by the Formula 1 commission: testing on Tuesday after the Grand Prix, and a sprint race for young drivers on Wednesday. The problem is that Wednesday is reserved for the Formula 2 tests, which were planned in advance.
The provisional plan now is to break up testing on Tuesday with a qualifying session for ten rookies, followed by a sprint at the end of the day.
If no solution is found, the test sprint can be included in the regulations for the 2025 season.
