De la Rosa: We already know why new products don’t work

Aston Martin’s struggles this season are largely due to the technical updates the team is developing and implementing not having the desired effect. At Zandvoort, Fernando Alonso finished in the top ten, after which he stated that the car did not have enough speed to compete with the top teams.

Pedro de la Rosa, the ambassador of the British team, analysed the situation in the broadcast of the Spanish TV channel DAZN, with which he collaborates as an expert.

“The season is difficult, especially because it was preceded by last year’s honeymoon, but now everything is much more difficult,” he admitted. “We are facing opponents who have made significant progress. Also our team is working intensively with the machine, but the technical updates we are making are not having the expected effect.

But no one is going to give up, we are trying to learn from the experiences of this season, and the team spirit is still fighting, because we already know why new products don’t work. We can hope that the results will gradually improve as the team prepares for the introduction of some important improvements to the AMR24, which are still being worked on.”

Separately, the former Formula 1 driver stressed that although Alonso is unhappy with the results, his example continues to motivate the entire team: “He is a leader who is an example to everyone, because he sets very high standards for himself and knows how to motivate us all. I stay in this team because of Fernando, because I like working with him.

Fernando wants the team to win. His mentality can be described as follows: “If the machine works well, I can definitely show a good result.” Even from the outside, it is clear that his confidence does not betray him – this is the calmness that characterizes champions.”

With nine rounds to go in the season, Aston Martin is in 5th place in the Constructors’ Championship, but almost 200 points behind Mercedes, who are in 4th place.
