Argentinian driver Franco Colapinto will replace American Logan Sargent in the Williams line-up for the remainder of the 2024 season, according to the team’s website.
Colapinto has been part of Williams’ youth program since 2023. The 21-year-old Argentinian will start racing for the team as lead driver from the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. It is reported that Sargent “will remain in the Williams family and will receive the necessary support to continue his career.” On the eve of the decision, the American crashed his car during Formula 1 testing in the Netherlands and finished 16th in the race. In the individual standings for the 2024 season, Sargent sits 20th without any points.
Colapinto will partner Alexander Albon until the end of the year. It was previously announced that from next season, Spaniard Carlos Sainz will play for the team alongside Albon.
The Italian Grand Prix will take place from August 30 to September 1.
