Max Verstappen: We have a lot of work to do in Monza

Red Bull Racing drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are preparing for a difficult weekend in Monza and are cautious in their predictions for the outcome of the Italian Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen: “I am disappointed with the result of the race in Zandvoort because you always want to win in front of your fans, but we are already ready for next weekend. We have a lot to do and the team is working with full dedication to find the right settings and balance of the car.

Monza is a fast circuit, so we will see how we look this week. There are a lot of new things on the circuit, including asphalt and kerbs, so there is still a lot of work to be done to be competitive.

The Italian fans are very passionate and always give their best and I think we will have good weather this weekend. It is great to ride on the old school circuit, so we will see what this week brings.”

Sergio Perez: “The team struggled with the pace at Zandvoort, but we learned some important lessons about the car and will try to apply them to Monza. At the Dutch Grand Prix we used different settings on the two cars and now the team has more information to analyse and choose the right direction.

McLaren have made a clear step forward and we must work harder to maintain our lead in both championships.

For me, the weekend at Zandvoort was more consistent, but I can get more out of the car. There were balance issues all weekend, but the weather played a big part in that. Conditions should be better in Monza. New asphalt is waiting for us and we have to be fast and ready to fight.”
