It was announced over a month ago that Mattia Binotto would lead the Audi programme in Formula 1, but the Italian manager has never appeared in the paddock since then.
It can be assumed that such a visit will not give him the most pleasant experiences, because Sauber is hopelessly behind the rest, because in Zandvoort, for example, it was the riders of the Swiss team who finished in last place, and only they lost two whole laps to the leaders.
But German publication Auto Bild reports that Binotto plans to visit the Sauber site in Monza, and together with Gernot Döllner, chairman of the board of Audi. This is quite logical, however, because Andreas Seidl, the former executive director of the Sauber Group, was supposed to hand over all powers to Binotto as of August 1.
The question remains about James Key, the team’s technical director, who lured Seidl away from McLaren. The Sauber car has not been a success this year, to be honest, and it would be strange if Key were to retain his place despite such disastrous results.
Again, it is still unclear who will be Nico Hulkenberg’s partner next year – several versions appeared during the season, but gradually most of them disappeared, leaving only two more or less obvious candidates on the list of contenders for this spot: Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher.
But the chances of the team’s choice being announced this weekend are very slim, especially as Binotto may have his own ideas that few people are aware of yet.
