Bernd Maylander crashed the safety car

The usual preparation for the race weekend in Monza was disrupted by a safety car accident.

At each circuit, the medical car and the safety car drive a series of fast laps on Thursday to test the timing system and the television cameras. Today, however, things did not go according to plan: Bernd Mailander lost control of the Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition at the Parabolica corner.

The safety car passed the asphalt departure area and the gravel safety area before hitting the tyre barrier on the outside of the track. Mailander and his passenger were uninjured and were able to get out of the wrecked car under their own power.

A medical car picked them up and took them to the pit lane, after which they continued alone for a series of fast laps.
