Not all drivers were happy with the changes at the Monza circuit

This year, Monza underwent a reconstruction, with kerbs and asphalt replaced all around the circuit. On Thursday, the riders took a walk around the track and not everyone was happy with the changes.

Daniel Ricciardo believes that the Italian circuit has lost one of its unique features with the new kerbs: “The kerbs on the track have been replaced. I walked around the circuit this morning and I can say that I am not that impressed.

Some elements that defined the character of the route have now been lost. For outside spectators this may not matter, but for the racers it does, because the old kerbs made it unique. Part of the old school circuit, part of Monza, has been lost, but the new surface looks great.

Good asphalt, but I’m still angry about the kerbs. Now you can pretty much do the whole circle with the throttle to the floor, because the new kerbs give you a wider ride. We’ll probably take wider turns now, and ninth and tenth will be much easier to do with the throttle to the floor.”

Williams driver Alex Albon expressed a similar opinion: “I’ve seen the new kerbs and it seems to me that the track has lost some of its character. Now there are kerbs here as standard.”
