Max Verstappen: Losing the title won’t change my life

Max Verstappen remains confidently in the lead in the individual standings, but Lando Norris is slowly closing the gap. In Monza, the Red Bull Racing driver spoke out loud for the first time this season about a possible loss of the title.

“Look, I just do what I can,” Max said during a press briefing. “Whether I win the title or not, it won’t change my life.” Do I want to win? Of course, but the speed of the car is not in my hands. I do everything I can, give the team feedback, try to make the car faster. But will all this be enough to guarantee the title at the end of the season? I don’t know.

But I’m sure that together with the team we will do everything we can and try to be more competitive than in Zandvoort, where we had a bad weekend.

“I’m still enjoying the season and want to win more, but I always knew that it was simply impossible to repeat last year’s season. Did I expect such problems this year? Not really, given the form we finished last season and started this season. Our job now is to try to turn the situation around and perform better. I know everyone in the team is working hard for this.”

When asked if the team form at Zandvoort was the final decision, Max replied: “I wouldn’t call it that. We just didn’t have our best weekend for various reasons and couldn’t get the car to perform as we wanted. Most likely the wind made the balance problems worse. And we just didn’t have the strongest weekend.”

Max added that the drop in results has nothing to do with Adrian Newey’s departure from the team: “It became a bit more difficult after the announcement of his departure. However, when someone leaves the team, it doesn’t immediately lead to a drop in results, because the car remains the same. So no, usually a departure doesn’t lead to a drop in results.”
