Verstappen sets fastest time in first practice for Italian Grand Prix, Leclerc second

Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen set the fastest time in the first free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix.

In his fastest attempt, Verstappen completed a lap of Monza in 1 minute 21.676 seconds. The second result was posted by the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari; +0.228), the leading trio being completed by the British driver Lando Norris (McLaren; +0.241).

Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli was included in Mercedes’ practice session, temporarily replacing George Russell at the wheel of one of the team’s cars. Shortly after practice began, the 18-year-old crashed his car and ended testing early.

Franco Colapinto made his debut as Williams’ lead driver in the session, replacing Logan Sargent. The Argentine posted the 17th result (+1.204).

The second free practice session of Formula 1 at Monza will take place later on Friday, starting at 18:00 Moscow time.
