Andrea Kimi Antonelli crashed his car at the start of first practice for the Italian Grand Prix. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said he saw nothing unusual in what happened, adding that the 18-year-old Italian would crash more than one car.
Toto Wolff: “The most important thing is that he is fine, because at the moment of impact the overload was 45G. He is still very young and we are ready to invest in his future. He will continue to have accidents.
This will continue next year. But today we saw a lot of positive things. It is better for us to let the fact that we have to slow Kimi down somehow be a problem than to try to increase his speed. His one and a half fastest laps were excellent.
When he got back to the pits, the first thing he did was apologize. This is what a driver should do when he brings a car back into the pits that looks like a Lego box that has fallen on the ground.”
