Verstappen: The team has evaluated different settings

Max Verstappen only set the fourteenth fastest time in the second practice session of the Italian Grand Prix. After the session, the reigning world champion said that the team had been experimenting with the settings.

His Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez had his transmission replaced as a precaution before the second practice session, causing the Mexican to miss the start of the session.

Max Verstappen (14th): “Today we tested different settings and the second practice didn’t go very well, although we look more competitive over a long series of laps. Apparently the tyres are subject to increased pressure, so it will be interesting to see how the situation will develop in the race.

I think we have found a good direction for further work with the car. I think the fight will be quite exciting, and I hope we will be part of it.

“As I said, we evaluated different setup options today – that’s what training is for. There’s still work to be done to be more competitive. In the first practice the car looked better than in the second, but the pace over the long distance was a bit better. Now we have to put all the pieces together to be competitive tomorrow.”

Sergio Perez (15th): “I am still behind. In the second practice we kept having small mechanical problems. We eliminated them quickly, but we still lost time.

The positive results from Friday include good speed over a long series of laps, which looks promising, but the problem is that the car’s behaviour changes from corner to corner.

We keep looking for ways to solve problems to get the most out of the car. I hope we can make a good step forward on Saturday, especially in the fast lap.”
