The Monza race always takes place in September, but for the first time in first place. Despite the start of the calendar autumn, the weekend in the Royal Park was hot. During the day, the air warmed up to 30 degrees and the new black asphalt that was laid this year reached a temperature of 50 degrees.
There were two changes on Friday. At Williams, Franco Colapinto replaced Logan Sargent for the rest of the season. At Mercedes, Andrea Kimi Antonelli only got behind the wheel in the first practice session, during which the car crashed, but on Saturday it was announced that he will replace Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
Conditions in Monza were very different from the cool and rainy Zandvoort a week ago, but the balance of power remained virtually unchanged. On Friday and Saturday morning, Hamilton set the best time; Norris qualified. Piastri shared the front row of the grid with his partner, Russell and Leclerc started from second place, Sainz and Hamilton started from third place. Verstappen started the race in seventh place.
The tyre manufacturers brought the softest compounds on the podium: C3 as hard, C4 as medium and C5 as soft. In the race, Verstappen, Perez, Ocon, Tsunoda, Stroll and Bottas started on Hard, the rest started on Medium.
