Alpine disappointed with weekend results in Monza

Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly dropped points at Monza. After the finish of the Italian Grand Prix, Alpine drivers complained about the lack of speed.

Esteban Ocon (14th): “This weekend we tried everything. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to earn points. The race wasn’t the easiest for everyone and now we have to analyze everything to understand which strategy would be the best.

My partner and I had different strategies. I initially planned to do the race with one pit stop, which would keep me on the track for a long time in the first stint. Many teams did the same. I had some tire problems at the end of the first stint and now I think a Medium-Hard strategy would probably be preferable.

Positive results include that we improved noticeably on Saturday after Friday’s training. In two weeks we return to Baku, where we must do everything we can to return to the points.”

Pierre Gasly (15th): “It was a long day and I was very disappointed because I thought we had more potential in the race than in qualifying. Yesterday we had problems with the brakes, which continued into the race. The car was swaying a lot and the tyres didn’t have enough grip on the road.

We will regroup and analyze the reasons that prevented us from performing at the same competitive level as in Zandvoort. We will analyze the weekend and figure everything out so that we can return to Baku stronger.”
