Pirelli motorsport division head Mario Isola is pleased with the performance of Italian tyres on the Italian circuit – and is happy with the Italian team’s victory…
Mario Isola: “A truly exciting race and a fantastic reception from the fans. Their enthusiasm for Monza is incredible and infectious! Congratulations to Charles Leclerc and Ferrari, winning this Grand Prix is incredibly emotional for them.
This race had everything: battles on the track, spectacular overtaking moves, like with Piastri and Norris, confrontation between those who chose a different strategy – with one and two pit stops.
Before the race we said that the one-stop strategy would allow us to cover the distance the fastest. And so it happened. But almost all teams left two sets of Hard tyres for the race, which allowed them to use different scenarios if necessary. Let’s not forget that no one had enough data to fully evaluate the performance of the hardest C3 compound on a completely new track surface.
Control of tyre granulation was crucial and was also influenced by improved track conditions. In the early part of the race granulation was significant, especially on the left front tyre, but became less noticeable thereafter. A major factor was the well-being of the drivers during the race and their ability to manage the tyres, especially for those following a pre-selected one-pit-stop strategy.”
