The Aston Martin team did not earn any points at Monza. Fernando Alonso finished only 11th, and Lance Stroll completed the protocol…
Fernando Alonso (11th): “It’s a difficult race. I got the most out of the car and I’m happy about that, but on the track I lacked speed.
At the start of the race we were in the points race, I was ahead of Albon and I thought everyone would race with two tyre changes. Unfortunately, in the end we didn’t have enough time to make up for it after the extra pit stop. I was only 0.2 seconds behind Magnussen and one second behind Albon. It’s a shame we didn’t score any points, but the work continues.”
Lance walk (19th): “Today’s result is more or less in line with expectations. All weekend we didn’t have enough speed to fight against our opponents, I realised that I couldn’t do much from 17th place.
We stuck to the one or two pitstop strategy but decided to do two when we assessed the level of tyre wear. In the last few laps I made my third pitstop to try and get my fastest lap.
We know the car is not efficient and we remain focused on improving the car.”
