Max Verstappen: We were only fighting with ourselves

After starting seventh in Monza, Max Verstappen finished sixth, summing up a disappointing weekend…

Max Verstappen (6th): “In the race we achieved the maximum possible result in this situation, but from the point of view of preparing the car it was far from the maximum.

During the race the car didn’t have enough speed, we were fighting only with ourselves and a failed pitstop didn’t help. The strategy was far from optimal, some drivers went with one pitstop and we chose two, which wasn’t the best option.

Most of the race had to be driven with limited power due to engine problems. In short, a bad race.

It would have been bad and with full engine power, but we would have been more competitive.

If we don’t change anything in the car, everything will be bad from now until the end of the season. We have a lot of work to do.”

Sergio Perez (8th): “From the first lap of the first practice the weekend was difficult. Unfortunately it was not possible to achieve success. At first the balance on the hard tyres was quite good, but soon degradation occurred and they became difficult to control.

With George we fought to the limit, the fight was fair, but in our case the tires did not work, the speed was not enough – it is clear that the problems are related to balance and we need to continue working.

I’m sure the team has a solution, we’ve made great cars in the past and there’s no reason that will stop us from doing this in the future.”
