Alpine F1 rushed to refute Sky Sports’ suggestion that Renault was exploring possible options to sell the works team. Nico Rosberg, the 2016 world champion who works as a pundit with the British television channel, spoke about it on Saturday, commenting on the third practice session at Monza.
According to him, he was also offered to become a new investor in Alpine F1. This is how the Enstone team responded:
“The statement is incorrect and we would like to clarify that the team is no longer selling shares beyond the 24% stake already sold to a group of investors (Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Effort Investments) in June 2023.
This group includes several famous athletes and entrepreneurs involved in sports investments, and this group is constantly looking for new investors who can become co-owners of the 24% stake. We categorically reiterate what our senior management has already said: the team is not for sale.”
The majority of the team’s shares, 76%, still belong to the Renault Group. Incidentally, Luca de Meo, the head of the French car manufacturer, is in Monza this weekend for the Italian Grand Prix.
