Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff sees McLaren as the favourite in the battle for the constructors’ championship.
Toto Wolff: “Such a drop in Red Bull’s results is really strange. I obviously have no prior knowledge, but what we see now is a completely different team than the dominant team it was at the beginning of the year.
I think Max Verstappen will stay ahead for a while because of his skills, but I see a drop in results. In Monza we saw one of the worst races Red Bull has seen in recent years. They just didn’t have the pace.
But who am I to say? For two years nothing worked for us, and the same can be said about Ferrari’s form a few races ago.
“I don’t think Red Bull can be written off. They are a formidable team and I am sure they will have more successful races in the future, but for now McLaren are the clear favourites for the Constructors’ Championship. With two cars they earn points. You can be sure that Red Bull did not expect something like that at the beginning of the year.”
