Christian Horner speaks with great respect to Charles Leclerc about how the Ferrari driver dealt with the setbacks and challenges he has faced this season. Also, the head of Red Bull Racing notes that Leclerc’s approach to racing is generally commendable.
Charles won two of the first three races of the season – the Grand Prix of Bahrain and Australia, and finished second in Saudi Arabia, and at this stage of the championship he was confidently in the lead, but then all kinds of difficulties started. In the next ten races he took just one win, although he started from pole five times.
He has been hampered by technical difficulties, obvious miscalculations by the team in the choice of tactics, as well as his own mistakes, and now he is already 80 points behind Max Verstappen.
“The way Charles behaves is a matter of great respect,” Horner said. – In addition, on the track, he behaves tough, but correctly. In the first half of the championship, he and Max often fought on track, but there was no contact whatsoever between their cars. It was a lot of fun to watch, and a pleasure to participate in this.
And I definitely wouldn’t want Ferrari to work better! Last year the title fight turned into a heavyweight fight that lasted 22 stages and I wish I didn’t have to go through it again.
It’s great going into the summer break with such a decent points lead, but there’s still a lot of racing ahead. The end of the championship is very far away, and there is still a sprint race ahead of us, so we are not sitting still.”
