During the race at Imola, Charles Leclerc was chasing Sergio Pérez for second when he made a mistake in the chicane and lost his podium opportunity. Commenting on the rivalry with the Ferrari driver after the finish, Pérez noted the strengths of the Italian team’s car, but added that he was in control.
Sergio Perez: “The Ferrari car is very fast in the chicane and in slow corners. I saw Charles make a mistake, but at that moment he attacked with all his might and gained some time back from me on each lap.
However, I kept the situation under control until the end. At one point he went to the pits to try and cut me, so I had to go to the pit stop too. At that time it was important to do everything right and not to make mistakes. You know, in a race like that it’s easy to make a mistake, but we did everything right and got a winning double. Great result for the team.”
