Alpine has not yet made a decision on the engine for 2026

Before the start of the summer holidays, former Alpine team manager Bruno Famen told the press that Renault was seriously considering the possibility of halting development of its own power plants in favour of Mercedes customer engines.

Employees at Renault’s Viry-Châtillon base are unhappy about these plans and held a protest during the Monza race weekend. In response, Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo assured that the final decision to stop producing their own engines has not yet been taken and that Alpine does not yet know which engines will be in their cars in 2026.

“We have four to five weeks for the Board of Directors to assess the situation and make a decision,” Luca de Meo told the press in Monza. “We are analysing which approach will give us a greater competitive position in Formula 1 from 2026 onwards. We are assessing every opportunity.

We are indeed considering the idea of switching to Mercedes engines, but it is not the only thing. There are many factors to consider when making a decision. What does the marketing department think about this? What could be the negative consequences, also financially, of this transition?

Our ambition is to create a competitive project, so when choosing we take into account many factors, and we do so with extreme caution.”
