Marco: We are fully focused on the individual competition

In an interview with OE, Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko said the team has revised its objectives for the season…

Q: On ORF you congratulated Ferrari on its successful strategy and McLaren on its sporting decision to let the drivers fight. Where does so much sympathy for your rivals come from?
Helmut Marko: Neither of them bothered us. Despite our failed performance, Max is still 62 points ahead. But this advantage will quickly diminish if we continue like this.

Question: Red Bull has an excellent driver in Max Verstappen, who is unlikely to lose 60 points in eight races…
Helmut Marko: If we don’t give him a normal car and have a few more failed races, anything is possible.

We will work with Liam Lawson on the tyre tests in Monza, while our people will try to understand what needs to be changed. We need to get back to the point where we made a mistake.

We have already drawn some conclusions, now we need to quickly make the right technical changes and bring the car back into the right balance. The next two street races in Baku and Singapore are of little importance. We will see in Austin if we can turn the tide.

Q: Can you challenge for the Constructors’ Championship if Perez performs at the same level?
Helmut Marko: Sergio is a good driver, he is just slower. Now our priority is Max’s title in the individual competition.

Q: You said on ORF radio that the scandal surrounding Christian Horner at the start of the season could now have an impact…
Helmut Marko: It is clear that this does not help. This did not affect our technical issues, but rather the people. If certain employees want change and get a good offer or see a new opportunity, they benefit from it.

Question: Do you already know which team Max will play for in 2025 and 2026?
Helmut Marko: Next year he will drive for Red Bull Racing.

Q: And in 2026?
Helmut Marko: It’s too far! Now we are fully focused on the title in 2024.
