Four teams, three drivers and two circuits took part in the two-day Pirelli 2025 tyre test that concluded today. As per regulations, the tyre design has been frozen since 1 September, with work on the compound continuing.
Yesterday, Pirelli was helped by Mercedes and Red Bull in Monza, today they were replaced by RB. On a wet track after an overnight rain, Liam Lawson started the day on intermediate tyres and switched to slicks when the asphalt dried. The New Zealander’s programme was interrupted by a technical problem. Before that, he drove 76 laps with a best time of 1:22.530.
200 kilometres southeast of Monza, Pirelli teamed up with the Ferrari team at Fiorano. Driving the SF-24, Oliver Berman tested the new wet and intermediate tyres. The Englishman started with a few laps on dry asphalt, after which the artificial irrigation system installed on the track was switched on. Berman completed 167 laps.
The next tests will take place in Barcelona on September 17-18, where the first prototypes of 2026 tyres will debut – also 18-inch, but slightly narrower than the current tyres. For these tests, Aston Martin will provide a current-generation car that has been modified to run on a different tyre size. Testing of the 2025 tyres will then continue in Magny-Cours, France, on October 1-2, with the support of Mercedes.
