Audi believes that Mattia Binotto and Jonathan Wheatley are the ideal combination to lead the works team in Formula 1…
Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi: “At the end of July, we started restructuring the management structure with a clear division of responsibilities. And I am very pleased that we have found strong leadership for our Formula 1 project in Mattia Binotto, who will lead all activities in Hinwil as Chief Operating Officer and Technical Director. Jonathan Wheatley will join him by 1 July next year at the latest and will be responsible for all racing activities at the track in his role as team principal.
Mattia, with his 30 years of experience, fits perfectly into our team. He knows how to win. He has experience in different roles. Together with Jonathan, they will be the ideal combination of leaders who can objectively assess the current situation and develop a plan that will take us to the top in the future.
We have never doubted this project and its importance for Audi. Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport. We see our project as a long-term project, but after evaluation we have changed the planning to a more realistic schedule. I cannot talk about the details, because we are still discussing some aspects, but I think we will meet the deadline. We have started to discuss how ambitious goals we can set ourselves, but we are not finished with this discussion yet. That will continue after the management team has been assessed and then we will provide information.”
