Kvyat was unable to sign a contract with the Super Formula team due to Japanese sanctions against Russia

Performance of a Russian pilot Daniel Kvyat TGM’s participation in Japanese Super Formula has failed due to the sanctions, TGM director Kazuhiro Ikeda said.

The Russian could replace Nobuharu Matsushita in the team, whose place was taken by Hiroki Otsu.

“As a Japanese team, we can’t hire him.” He can get a visa and enter Japan, but he can’t work [и получать зарплату].

The team can’t pay him directly. He feels that if they can’t pay him, there’s no point in him coming here. That was the biggest problem.

“I asked him to discuss it with the sponsors, but the obstacles proved too serious,” Ikeda was quoted as saying by Motorsport.

Kvyat previously competed in Formula 1 for Red Bull and Alpha Tauri (formerly Toro Rosso) in 2014-2017 and 2019-2020. In June this year, the crew of Kvyat, Italians Mirko Bortolotti and Edoardo Mortara took 10th place in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the World Endurance Championship.
