FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem has indicated that he is counting on the arrival of new manufacturers in Formula 1 as work on the regulations for the next generation of engines, due in 2026, is nearing completion.
The interest of Porsche and Audi in the World Championship has been known for a long time, although there have been no specific official statements from their side – it is believed that the management of both German companies is waiting for the final approval of the new technical regulations for engines. These engines, on the one hand, will remain related to the current power plants, ie they will be V6 turbos with a working volume of 1.6 liters, but the hybrid system will no longer have an MGU-H engine-generator.
“Over the past 18 months, FIA staff have been actively working with all stakeholders to create attractive regulations for new Formula 1 power plants,” said the federation’s president. “This document has now been submitted to the World Motorsport Council for consideration.
I am proud that as a result of joint efforts, new entrants will have the opportunity to enter the championship, which will lead to an even greater sporting rivalry.”
Porsche is expected to become a new partner of Red Bull, while Audi could acquire the assets of Swiss company Sauber, whose team now drives in Formula 1 as Alfa Romeo.
