Official: Oliver Berman will replace Magnussen in Baku

The Haas team has confirmed a replacement driver line-up for the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with Oliver Berman set to lead the race weekend in Baku in place of Kevin Magnussen.

Magnussen’s replacement with Berman was forced: Kevin earned 12 penalty points over a 12-month period and was not allowed to start the next race.

Oliver Berman: “It’s always difficult for a reserve driver to replace a main driver, given the limited preparation time and so on, but I was fortunate to have a similar experience with Ferrari earlier this year. In addition, I have already completed four practice sessions with Haas this season in the VF-24, which will also prove valuable ahead of the upcoming full race weekend in Baku.

The team is in good shape at the moment and I will do my best to prepare myself as best as possible in the coming period. The goal is to have a successful weekend in Azerbaijan.”

Ayo KomatsuTeam Leader: “I am pleased that Oliver will be flying the VF-24 together with Niko [Хюлкенбергом] in Baku. He has already shown great promise in practice and testing since the end of last season, performing well for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia and earning points.

This is another great opportunity for Oliver and the team to work together, this time for the entire race weekend. He couldn’t have asked for a better partner than Nico to guide him.”
