Fernando Alonso admits that the Aston Martin F1 team, for which he is in his second season, is far from in the best form, even though the weekend in Monza, when he felt particularly inspired, ended for him with only an 11th place in the Italian Grand Prix.
The Silverstone team is in 5th place in the Constructors’ Championship, but has only 74 points, while Mercedes, in 4th place, has almost four times as many points. In the last four races, Alonso and his teammate Lance Stroll have scored 6 points (with Fernando scoring 5), and the two-time world champion believes that he is personally performing better than the capabilities of the AMR24 allow.
“We can’t do anything,” Racer quotes the Spaniard. – I want to say that we are completely dependent on our team. I think Lance and I try to do our best every weekend. I understand that all this went completely unnoticed even during the weekend in Monza, when I felt inspired.
In my opinion Lance and I are showing quite similar results this year – at the end of the races we are always separated by only two or three seconds. The Monza stage was one of those weekends where I was ahead of him, and I was happy with the car and maybe got more than 100% out of it, but the result was only 11th place. So of course there is something to be angry about…
And it will continue like this until our car gets a series of updates. So far, we are not doing well enough – this is exactly what happened in Hungary, in Spa, in Zandvoort and in Monza. I don’t think anything will change noticeably in Baku, Singapore or Austin unless we introduce some new things.
But this is in our plans, because the team is aware of the situation and is working with full commitment. We remain united and continue to resist…”
