A press conference will be held on Tuesday at Aston Martin’s team base in Silverstone, the subject of which has not yet been officially announced, but everyone understands that it will involve signing a contract with Adrian Newey.
There is no detailed information yet, as the parties stubbornly refuse to comment on anything, but BBC Sport writes, citing an unnamed Aston Martin employee, that long-term agreements have already been signed with the famous racing car designer, the contract being for five years.
Newey’s annual compensation is also mentioned: 30 million pounds sterling, which amounts to almost 40 million dollars, i.e. even more than some previously made assumptions, but this amount includes bonuses and various additional payments.
It also states that Newey expects to begin work in early March 2025.
BBC journalists attempted to verify this information, but Eddie Jordan, Adrian Newey’s manager, categorically refused to comment, and an Aston Martin representative only politely stated that “Adrian would be a valuable asset to any team, but we have nothing to announce.”
Despite this formulation, there is no doubt that representatives of all the world’s leading publications will come to the new Aston Martin base, and not only sports ones and not only those specializing in motor racing. Everyone will fit, because the modern base at Silverstone is impressive in size, like the entire ambitious mega-project of Lawrence Stroll in Formula 1, which required billions of dollars of investment.
The expected and in all respects very valuable addition in the person of Newey promises to be another step towards future successes, but it is worth quoting another British publication, The Race, where the text devoted to the upcoming event ends as follows:
“How successful this alliance will be depends on whether Newey will be happy with everything in the new place, especially with such an ambitious owner as Lawrence Stroll.
But it seems that the potential of the project is enormous, as many technical heavyweights are now involved, the most modern infrastructure is at their disposal and there is an upcoming collaboration with Honda.
Newey arrives on time and still has time to somehow influence the process of creating the car of 2026…”
It can also be added that Adrian Newey’s achievements in Formula 1 were marked by state awards, and in 2012 he was awarded the title “Officer of the British Empire”. If, together with Aston Martin, in a new round of his career he achieves successes comparable to those that once delighted fans of Williams, McLaren and Red Bull Racing, then it is possible that by the time of his honorable retirement the aerodynamics genius will have the right to be called “Sir Adrian”.
