After a strong start to the season and four podiums in the first five races, Sergio Perez’s results started to decline sharply and Max Verstappen had problems in the summer. Before the start of the race weekend in Baku, the Mexican Red Bull Racing driver said that due to the peculiarities of his driving style, the problems with his car appeared earlier than those of his partner.
Sergio Perez: “I have had problems in the last 15 months and they are related to the direction in which the car has been decided to develop. Until recently, Max has been able to avoid these problems thanks to his flying style. It is just that it is naturally less sensitive to them.
What some people don’t understand, especially among journalists, is that different flying styles lead to different conclusions. It’s just that Max, unlike me, is less sensitive to some of the car’s characteristics.
Ten or twelve races ago I started complaining about problems, and now they have become so big that even Max felt them. I think solving problems by making adjustments to the car will help me more, given my style.
From the telemetry data we can see the cause very clearly, the team is fully aware of it and I hope we will eliminate it quickly. Then it will be possible to get more speed out of the car.”
