The driver who set the 13th fastest time committed a technical infringement. The stewards found that the Frenchman’s car exceeded the maximum permitted fuel consumption.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc took pole position. The second result was shown by Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren), the top three was completed by Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Ferrari).
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix race will take place on Sunday.
