Lewis Hamilton: The car was assembled incorrectly

Lewis Hamilton started from the pit lane in Baku after replacing the power plant. The Mercedes driver said that in addition to the engine, the team also had to change the suspension settings after it emerged after qualifying on Saturday that the car had been assembled incorrectly.

Lewis Hamilton: “We had a great car on Friday and we made some adjustments for Saturday, but one of the parts wasn’t fitted properly, which sent us in the wrong direction all Saturday.

The team only discovered this at the end of the day. And we had to change the settings before the race. Also, I lost one engine earlier in the season, so I had to install a new one anyway, and the Baku circuit is the best for a replacement. But I knew I had a tough day ahead of me.

During the race the balance of the car was the worst I have ever experienced. The balance was shifted to the front wheels, and the rear wheels did not hold the track at all. I had to turn jerkily and slide my front wheels on every turn. This is the strangest way of driving I have ever used.

I knew it would be difficult to overtake. In the middle of the peloton it is very difficult to approach the rider in front to launch an attack. I don’t know why our pace was so bad. Sometimes it happens.”
