Rumours: teams are switching drivers – All Formula 1 News 2022

The season of rider transfer rumors usually starts to pick up momentum in mid-summer, but this year the first reports of possible changes to the team composition started to come in in April.

Columnist for the Spanish TV channel DAZN F1 and a visitor to the paddock, Albert Fabrega, mentioned a possible exchange of riders during the evening stream after the finish of the race in Imola.

“The market for pilots is changing,” says Fabrega. – There are some events, but I can’t give details, because I was asked not to say anything. The name of the rider who leaves does not surprise me, but the one who comes in his place… And it becomes an exchange of riders between the teams.

There are no particulars in the journalist’s words, but certain assumptions can be made. Due to the nature of his work, Albert Fabrega has good connections with the Spanish riders and their representatives. The fate of one Spanish Formula 1 driver became clear last week – Ferrari extended the contract with Carlos Sainz until the end of 2024.

As for the second Spaniard in Formula 1, everything is more interesting here – Fernando Alonso’s contract with Alpine expires at the end of the season, but the driver himself has no intention of ending his career and is even standing a transfer to a another team as Alpine did not want to continue working with him.

Where can Alonso go? Not long ago we talked about Fernando’s possible move to Aston Martin, where he could replace Sebastian Vettel. In Imola, Sebastian himself said that the decision to continue his career depends on the results of the current season, but the option is not excluded that Vettel will continue to perform in another team – in Alpine, which is led by his old friend Otmar Safnauer.

Is it possible that Fabrega meant other racers? True, but if one day we hear the news about the transfer of Fernando Alonso to Aston Martin and Sebastian Vettel to Alpine, it will come as no surprise to us.
