The Federal Bureau of Investigation has raided the facility of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL), an IndyCar team. The facility is located in Zionsville, Indiana, and FBI agents appeared there Wednesday morning.
As Racer writes, they demanded that team members leave all computers and other electronic devices at the scene, take only personal belongings, and leave the building, at which point U.S. law enforcement officials began investigating.
Their surprise visit is said to be due to the fact that an unnamed former Andretti Global engineer, i.e. another IndyCar team, who joined RLL some time ago and held one of the leading engineering positions, is suspected of illegally transferring information that is Andretti’s intellectual property.
“We are fully cooperating with investigators,” the RLL team said in a statement late Wednesday. “As the investigation continues, the information we can share is limited, but we will provide further information to the press as soon as possible.”
Racer also reports that FBI agents visited Andretti’s base in August in search of evidence of unauthorized leaks of information that falls under the category of intellectual property. Michael Andretti’s team declined to comment on what happened.
Racers competing for RLL in the 2024 season include Graham Rayhole, Pietro Fittipaldi, Christian Lundgaard, Takuma Sato and Jüri Vips.
