Today McLaren has settled the dispute over the flexibility of the rear wing of its MCL38 car – although it has passed all FIA tests and the federation has no complaints, the British team decided to make changes to the design so that no one else would have questions about its legality.
Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko is happy with this decision by his rivals and now suggests taking a closer look at the design of McLaren’s front wing – Red Bull Racing, it turns out, also has questions about it.
“Like most fans, we saw on TV how the McLaren rear wing was moving,” Marco told German Sky before McLaren made a statement about its intention to change the design. – The rules state that the wing must not flex during movement. FIA checks are one thing, and they passed them, but what happens during the race is a completely different story.
There is no grey area. The rules are clear that the wing cannot change the aerodynamics while it is moving. But the wing bends and that saves time.”
In the broadcast of the Austrian ORF, Marco was delighted after McLaren’s statement: “We have protested three times against McLaren’s rear wing. Today the FIA has made the right decision. McLaren’s rear wing is not allowed. Now it’s time to take a closer look at their front wing.”
