Yuki Tsunoda: We’ve been preparing for this moment for a long time

Yuki Tsunoda had a very decent qualifying in Singapore – he reached the final and showed an 8th result. His teammate Daniel Ricciardo did not get past the first session and will start from 16th position on Sunday.

Yuki Tsunoda (8th): “Overall it was a good day, I am happy because I haven’t made it to the qualifying final for a long time. The team did a good job, we have been preparing for this moment, including me, for a long time. Overall we managed to show this 8th result on time.

Of course, every driver wants to perform perfectly in qualifying, but I didn’t drive the last lap of the final session in the best way. This was due to the not very successful lap when leaving the pits; I had to hurry to start the attempt on time, and I did it at the last moment. In any case, today’s result, compared to the qualifying in several previous stages, can be considered a significant achievement.

If we talk about the task for the race, then first I will have to overtake the Haas car, which starts in front of me. Unfortunately, our main rivals were able to stay ahead of us today, but tomorrow I will attack with all my might, even if it will not be easy. But I will do my best.”

Daniel Ricciardo (16th): “Yes, today everything went bad, and I don’t know exactly why. There’s not much to say. We didn’t change the settings that much, but it turned out that it was much more difficult to get the tires to perform effectively, even when we had new sets installed.

Although we were not so confident on Friday, yesterday’s training went well, so we did not make any significant changes to the settings. But this morning it turned out that although the speed on Medium tyres was more or less normal, we could not achieve anything on Soft tyres.

Of course we thought we would solve the problems before qualifying, but we didn’t, so it wasn’t fun to drive. I’d better keep quiet about what my expectations are before tomorrow’s race, so as not to get a day of hard labor for swearing in the air.
