In Singapore, the Alpine team did not score any points: Esteban Ocon finished thirteenth and Pierre Gasly seventeenth. Both drivers indicated that they could not finish in the top ten due to the speed of the car.
Esteban Ocon (13th): “I had a good start, gained a few places, but we didn’t have the pace to qualify for points and I couldn’t keep up with the cars in front of me. We maximised everything we could, but during the race there were no chances to climb to the top.
“It’s good that there’s a break. We’re all looking forward to a bit of rest before the busy final months of the season. We need to keep working hard to get the most out of the car and optimise everything we can.”
Pierre Gasly (17th): “A very difficult and disappointing race. At the moment we are simply not fast enough. The lack of speed forced the team to try different strategies in an attempt to improve the result. I spent a long first stint on Medium and lost time compared to the opponents I fought with at the beginning. In the future, the plan was to keep opponents at a distance in the hope that this would help Esteban.
The reality is that we were ninth in Zandvoort three races ago, but in the following races we were well outside the top ten. We have to keep working and find a chance to improve.
I’m looking forward to a short break before Austin, where we’re determined to regain our form.”
