Franco Colapinto came close to scoring points in Singapore, but finished eleventh, 1.6 seconds behind Sergio Perez. His Williams team-mate Alex Albon retired after fifteen laps due to an overheating power unit.
Franco Colapinto (11th): “It’s a shame we couldn’t score points, even though I was in the top ten at the beginning of the race. I think there was a chance to stay in the points and hold off Sergio, because it’s difficult to overtake on this circuit. However, I pitted too late and lost my position. It turned out as it turned out: we win and lose together as a team.
“I managed the tyre wear well during the race, but physically it was very hard for me. It was more that that was the limiting factor. Overall, 11th place is a decent result. The race was positive and I keep learning.”
Alex Albon (departure): “Unfortunately it ended the way it did, although I think the car was enough to score points this weekend. Unfortunately, problems with the cooling of the power plant forced him to retire from the race.
The start was difficult because I had to leave the track, and then it was hard to earn it back.
“Sometimes you can’t count on points with the car, and when you earn them you feel satisfied. This weekend it’s the other way around: the car was very fast and we should have scored points, but we didn’t, and that’s frustrating. We’ll analyse everything and see how we can improve the car in the remaining races.”
