Lando Norris had a great time at the Singapore Grand Prix: from pole he led every lap of this race, one of the most difficult of the season, and took his third victory of the season with a more than convincing lead.
Oscar Piastri, his McLaren teammate, also had a great race and after starting from 5th position he climbed onto the podium.
Lando Norris (1st): “It was a great race! There were even a lot of sharp moments – during the race there were quite risky situations several times, but I think everything else was under control.
The car worked perfectly, I could attack and the whole race we flew like on wings, and only at the end I could relax a little bit. In general the race was great, but still very difficult, I still can’t catch my breath. But it was fun!
I can’t say I was riding too aggressively, even when I hit the barriers, because that happens sometimes when you relax too much. But I don’t know, maybe today it was both.
It’s not easy to drive on this circuit, because you can easily lock the wheels, and I made exactly those mistakes. But he kept attacking. I didn’t want to be just one second ahead; I wanted to lead by as big a margin as possible.
It was fun, I scored 25 points and I’m happy that Oscar was on the podium too, so it was a good day for our team!”
Oscar Piastri (3rd): “It was a bit warm! But overall the race went well, we were able to make up for that after qualifying. Yesterday I didn’t do my best work, so the podium can be considered an excellent result.
We have a very fast car, we used good tactics and this allowed us to stay ahead of Mercedes. Thanks to the whole team for such a car, which worked exceptionally well all weekend.
I didn’t touch the barriers today, although there was a sharp moment in the battle with George Russell in the first corner. But once I reached third position and Max Verstappen was still out of reach, I didn’t want to take too many risks.
I felt like I had done enough wall-scraping a few weeks ago, so I wanted to avoid that today so as not to create extra work for our mechanics when they get the car ready for the next race.”
