In the closing laps of the Singapore Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo put on Soft tyres and set the fastest lap, denying Charles Leclerc an extra point.
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has questioned the sporting legality of such a decision. As RB is a sister team to Red Bull Racing, Brown pointed to a potential rule breach, as Ricciardo was behind the grid and could not score a point for the fastest lap.
Zach Brown: “This is a typical move in a senior-junior situation that I don’t think was allowed. But this wasn’t the first time this happened, and it probably won’t be the last.
“I’ve talked about this in the past and now I’ll ask a few questions. What happened was a good illustration of the interaction between the teams, which didn’t give anyone any points. I don’t think for any other reason, from the position he was in, he would have pitted in the last few laps.”
