McLaren will unveil the new W1 supercar on October 6

McLaren Group Ltd. known not only for her success in Formula 1, which her team produces for her, but also for sports cars produced by McLaren Automotive’s car production division.

The first McLaren F1 supercar was built in 1992 and in 8 years only 106 examples of this now cult model were produced. Moreover, after its impressive victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, although the car was initially made for public roads, it was only then that its racing version, the McLaren F1 GTR, appeared.

Now, more than three decades later, McLaren has decided to show the world a new supercar that will continue the so-called Ultimate Series. “Absolute series” machines with particularly excellent properties.

Today it was announced in Woking that the McLaren W1 will premiere on October 6.

Strictly speaking, the first car that can somehow be compared with the F1 model appeared in 2012 – it was the McLaren P1, a hypercar with a hybrid power plant that developed almost 1000 horsepower. And now, to mark the 50th anniversary of McLaren’s first victory in the Constructors’ Championship, the W1 was created in Woking.

So far little is known about the new product, as its creators keep all information secret until the premiere, but the W1 is obviously powered by a V8 engine, integrated with a hybrid system that uses technologies developed in Formula 1. There is already information that the power will be 1200 hp.

Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive, said: “The McLaren W1 concept is driven by the principles that underpin a supercar and is the absolute embodiment of everything associated with a McLaren supercar.

In terms of performance and efficiency, the W1 pushes the boundaries of what is possible and deserves a “1” in its name. Like its predecessors, the McLaren F1 and P1, the W1 defines the rules that a true supercar must adhere to.”
