It is likely that Yuki Tsunoda dreams of driving a Red Bull Racing car next year, but such an opportunity has now presented itself, although it did not end well.
This weekend, Yuki took part in the Red Bull demonstrations in Taiwan in front of a large crowd. The Japanese driver piloted the RB8 with a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated Renault V8 engine, with which Sebastian Vettel won his third championship in 2012.
Tsunoda was happily driving around a makeshift street circuit, smoking tires and doing donuts, but something went wrong and smoke started pouring out of the car and flames appeared at the rear of the RB8.
Obviously, although the fire was quickly extinguished, the demo sessions had to be stopped, but it doesn’t seem like this had much effect on Yuki’s mood.
“It was incredibly amazing, thank you all for your support! – said Tsunoda, addressing the audience, which was broadcast on Taiwanese television channel TVBS News. – I see many waving flags, waving their arms, and I hope you enjoyed the first Formula 1 tour in Taiwan.
I did my best and I’m sure you appreciated the sound of this engine! It was actually the first time I drove such a V8 powered car and I loved it too!”
After 18 stages of the season, Yuki is in 12th place in the individual world championship standings, and from the US Grand Prix he will have a new partner: Liam Lawson will now drive the second RB car.
