In Argentina they started talking about the return of the national stage

Franco Colapinto’s impressive debut in Formula 1 with Williams led to renewed talk in Argentina about the return of the national podium to the Formula 1 calendar.

The Autodromo in Buenos Aires has hosted Formula 1 rounds twenty times in its history, from 1953 to 1998, and the last race to date was won by Michael Schumacher in a Ferrari. In 2012, then-president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner announced plans to hold a street race in the coastal city of Mar del Plata, but failed to agree on a contract with Bernie Ecclestone.

Now they are talking about holding the race again. Minister of Tourism, Environment and Sports Daniel Scioli told La Agencia de Viajes: “President Javier Miley, Presidential Secretary General Carina Miley and I have discussed this issue and agreed to coordinate efforts so that Argentina can once again host Formula 1 can function.”

Daniel Scioli added that he plans to visit the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in November to hold negotiations and start the process of returning the Argentine stage to the Formula 1 calendar.

The project to return the Argentine Grand Prix will require significant investment. The Autodromo Buenos Aires has fallen into disrepair in recent years and will require renovations costing around US$20 million to meet FIA Grade 2 requirements. However, in order to host a Formula 1 round, the circuit must comply with the FIA Grade 1 category, which will require additional investment.
