The Russian REC Endurance Series will conclude the 2024 season on October 5. Thirty teams will appear at the start of the final phase of the series, the SPORTS Grand Prix.
Previous races of the season were held in warm and dry conditions, but this time there is a chance of rain. The founder of the REC series, Igor Ermilin, spoke about the intrigues of the fifth stage.
Igor Ermilin: “I’ve always said that to make a Formula 1 race interesting, you need rain and/or oil on the track. This can be said about all other circuit races.
In the individual competition REC 2024 it is an exciting battle between more than a hundred pilots who have scored points during the season. The list is headed by pilots Vitaly Larionov and Ivan Shcherbakov of the Sportsar Racing Team. This season the team has fielded three teams in two classes. At the same time, the thirty pilots from other crews following them have a very small gap and have every chance to significantly improve their position in the individual competition after the fifth stage.
In the CN Pro class, the fate of victory is clearly not decided. The chances are high for crew No. 111 Blackthorn, whose Ligier incidentally burned out on the previous stage, as well as for crew No. 21 BALCHUG Racing, who, according to preliminary information, will not participate. The No. 31 AIMOL Racing crew also has theoretical chances.
In the GT Pro class, the first three positions in the rankings are occupied by GT Pro Touring cars (in TCR preparation). Missed stages and retirements prevented GT3 cars from competing in the class. However, in the final stage, the GT Pro Touring cars will be contested by the Porsche 911 GT3 (Larionov, Smolyakov, crew No. 25), as well as two Russian sports cars Rossa LM GT (Risinov, Meshcheryakov, crew No. 26). ) and the progressive Marussia GT (Dobrynin, Solovov, crew no. 7).
In the GT class, the intrigue will be resolved in the final stages in the battle for leadership between the teams of Sportcar Racing Team No. 5 and Team Garis No. 34, who are now only 10 points apart. At the same time, the victory of the second and the second place of the first will lead to equality of points. YADRO Motorsport #16 will most likely lose third place.
In the GT Light class, the gaps in the top five are minimal, with second place taken by the No. 93 Arena Racing Team crew in a Mazda 3, which in terms of engine power is almost 1.5 times weaker than its competitors. As they say: stability is a sign of mastery. The expected rain during the race will be on the side of the #93 crew and could improve the position of the #53 Mazda Karting Academy crew.
In the CN class, the outcome among the crews driving Shortcut cars is almost a foregone conclusion. Even if the crew of No. 99 SUN ZORRO does not enter this stage, they will remain the REC 2024 leaders in their class.”
For fans, a pleasant surprise will be the return of crew No. 71 from the KTM RT Russia team on a rare KTM X-Box GT4 car in the GT class for Russia. The crew returned to the race after a year’s break.
The new entrant is the Togliatti crew no. 113 of the RS Motorsport team, competing in a Mini Cooper in the GT Light class. With the arrival of this team, it can be said that the series has expanded the geography of participants to include teams from Moscow and its region, St. Petersburg, Novorossiysk and Tolyatti.
The debut of the Russian supercar ROSSA from the G-Drive Rossa Racing team of world endurance champion Roman Rusinov is expected again. The team showed up for the final stage, but did not go to the start. Roman commented on the removal of the crew by saying that it was important to him that the car was as ready for the race as possible. Organizers hope to see the Rossa LM GT at the start, but are asking fans to understand the complexity of the process.
An extra program is provided for fans at the circuit. Spectators can go to the starting grid, walk along the pit lane, watch the teams at work in the pits, drive around the circuit in a race taxi or a tour bus with a guide who will tell you about every corner and the entire course. history of the Moscow Raceway circuit.
The organizers recommend attending the match even despite the possible rain; they recommend dressing warmly and bringing umbrellas. The circuit has covered stands and a café. This way you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of racing on the legendary German Nürburgring or the Belgian circuit of Spa, where bad weather is an integral part of the program, making the racing very interesting.
