Mika Salo: I don’t think Ferrari deserves the title

Mika Salo, an ex-Formula 1 driver who periodically works as a third steward at the invitation of the FIA, shared his views on the Ferrari team, for which he once spent six races, in 1999, replacing the injured Michael Schumacher .

Mika Salo: “Of course Ferrari has a very fast car, but something almost always goes wrong. I don’t know what it has to do with. Sometimes riders make mistakes, sometimes the team. That’s not how championships are won.

At the start of the season, the Scuderia performed very well, while Max Verstappen and Red Bull were unlucky due to technical problems. At the time, it looked like Charles Leclerc would easily win the title, but Red Bull turned the tide completely. And Max is very strong.

As I watch from the side what is happening, it is difficult for me to say what is causing Ferrari’s problems. In my opinion, the situation is very difficult, but I am sure that Maranello will analyze everything in detail and try to find a solution, because now they just give the title to Red Bull.

Of course they work under strong pressure, but this applies to all teams. Ferrari’s management is always under a lot of pressure. Of course in Italy they traditionally criticize their team harshly, and in the past Ferrari has changed leaders more than once, but I think Mattia Binotto has done a good job and managed to get the Scuderia back into the leading group. It remains only to correct some nuances.

The team is doing well on Saturday, but it seems something is wrong with them at the pre-race meeting on Sunday, because instead of winning races, they seem to be looking for opportunities to miss the win again. All in all, I don’t think they deserve the title this year.

It would be nice if they could suddenly solve all the problems during the summer break, because we want to see interesting races and an exciting battle for the title. I also want Mercedes to return to the battle for victories.
